Grooming tips

How often should you get a fade?

Most barbers suggest every two to three weeks. Your fade, your hair and your beard decide the rest.

The short answer

For a sharp fade, plan on a visit every two to three weeks. A fade looks best for the first week or so. After that the blend fills in and the line around the ears and neck starts to soften.

What changes the timing

How short you go. A skin fade shows growth fast because it goes down to skin, so it needs a refresh sooner, often around two weeks. A taper fade keeps some length at every point and can stretch to three or four weeks.

How fast your hair grows. Some people are back to stubble in a week. Others can wait longer. Your barber can tell you what to expect after the first cut.

What you want it to look like. If you like it razor sharp for work or events, book earlier. If you like a grown-in look, wait longer.

A shape up between cuts

A shape up cleans the hairline, temples and neckline without redoing the whole cut. It is $25 (or $30 with the beard) and takes about 30 minutes, so it is a cheaper way to stay sharp between haircuts.
